Set inside a modern hospital, The Doctor is a gripping moral thriller that collides freedom of religion, identity politics, medical ethics and class with razor-sharp intelligence and dark humour. As the story unfolds, our loyalties constantly shift – exposing not only the characters’ blind spots, but our own. Since premiering at London’s Almeida Theatre, it has been staged around the world and acclaimed for its high-stakes drama and sophisticated non-naturalistic casting – deliberately subverting expectations of race, gender and identity to reveal our unconscious prejudices.
